Super Duplex Steel Products FAQ

SuperDuplex stainless like Duplex, is a mixed microstructure of austenite and ferrite (50/50) which has improved strength over ferritic and austenitic steel grades. The main difference is that Superduplex has a higher Molybdenum and Chromium content which gives the material greater corrosion resistance.

Duplex stainless steel, famous for its excellent combination of good mechanical properties and high corrosion resistance, is widely used in the industrial fields, such as the production of seawater heat exchangers and the chemical containers for use in the high-concentration chloride environments.

Duplex stainless steels are based around a composition of 22% chromium, whereas super duplex stainless steels are based around a composition of 25% chromium. By increasing the chromium content, the level of pitting corrosion resistance is also increased.

Our duplex steel grades 2507 and 4501 are regarded as super duplex stainless steel grades. They are highly alloyed and have a corrosion resistance comparable to high performance austenitics like 254 SMO

Super Duplex Pipe is a category of duplex pipes. Duplex is a material that has the features of ferritic steel and of the austenitic steel. So this material possesses high strength from the ferritic structure and high corrosion resistance from the austenitic structure.
